- It's a steep, hilly city and the old core around the castle and Castle Hill is cobbled in places, with Georgian and Victorian stone terraces fronting straight onto the pavement and no driveway. - The student and shared houses take heavy wear, and the kitchens carry built-up grease behind the hob and in the oven from several cooks. On end-of-tenancy jobs it is worth pricing the oven in from the start.
- The older terraces and the properties down by the Lune on St George's Quay, River Street and Damside Street can be damp, and the quayside sits in the river's flood warning area, so black-spot mould gathers on window reveals and the silicone around the bath. We clean it back and note the condition, we do not treat the damp itself.
